I have purchased a DS412+ for a small office installation and am also going to get an APC UPS (based on the Synology compatibility list). I spoke with APC tech support and they said in order for the NAS to communicate with the UPS and monitor battery level I would have to install their Power Chute software on the NAS drive itself. My question is if it is possible to install third party software such as APC's Power Chute on the NAS and if so what would be the process. Otherwise does just connecting the USB cable between the DS412+ and the UPS accomplish the same form of communication.Separate comment: I'm now questioning my choice of the DS412+ after coincidentally reading some other posts talking about end of service life for the DS412+!! Any thoughts on how long updates will continue or when this line's service will end?
